last day to donate. please help us reach our goal and be able to give smthg to everyone on our list!
PLEASE HELP US HELP OTHERS! WE ARE YOUR NEIGHBORS HELPING OTHER NEIGHBORS...WE JUST NEED A FEW MORE DONATIONS SO THAT ALL THE FAMILIES THAT HAVE BEEN NOMINATED CAN RECEIVE HELP!
It was our goal that all the families would get a little something for each member, and a small giftcard to like publix or walmart or something to help them out with a holiday dinner.
Whatever little assistance you can give can cumulatively make a HUGE difference. Times are tough for everyone. People are proud, and have trouble asking for help, but several families have been nominated by others in their communities for a little help this year and we'd really like to make this small grass-roots effort a success.
THANK YOU ALL FOR CARING AND HELPING! ♥

Magic clinch first playoff spot since 2003!
All praises be onto Allah.
Unfortunately, the Pistons are going to hand our asses to us. But at least Dwight will get a sliver of playoff experience to build on. Current Mood: sweet

The Magic are 6-3, second place in the East right now.
Stop the season right now and roll out the freakin' parade.
Can the team keep it up? Maybe, but Dwight simply must stop playing like a pussy. 9 points and 8 boards against the Nuggets tonight....come on now. Those are Eric Dampier numbers, not next-David-Robinson numbers. Current Mood: optimistic

Still waiting for domination.......
Am I the only one totally disappointed at how Dwight Howard is playing so far this season? Other than the monster game against the Bulls last week, he's been weak.
What's up with that? He was fantastic in the preseason, but he's been playing as if he were a rookie again. I expected him to be putting up All-NBA numbers by now.
Let's hope this is just a temporary lull before the storm.

Okay, so we pick JJ Redick.
Pros: can shoot, with range, and has 4 years of college experience.
Cons: Many. Outside of shooting, not much to write home about. Doesn't get a lot of assists, rebounds, or steals. Defense very suspect. Not extremely athletic. Questionable health issues (back hernia).
My take? It could go either way.....JJ can either compliment Dwight and Jameer nicely (the Magic desperately need outside shooting), or wash out and be the next Trajon Langdon. One or the other. I'll wait til' the season starts to reserve judgement.

Youth movement + free agency = good future
I can't believe some people are saying the Magic are looking bad right now after trading Stevie Franchise to the Knicks.
Are these people blind
? Do they not see what's going on? It's as clear as day, to me.....we're gearing up to do some shopping in the free agent market in 2007. Hill and Hardaway's big contracts come off the payroll in a little bit, so the Magic are due for a ton of cap room soon.
Think about it: we have some nice pieces to start with in Jameer Nelson and Dwight Howard. We have a boat load of potential in Darko. Sure, he wasn't squat in Detroit. Maybe he won't be either in Orlando. But did we give up a lot to get him? Nope. If he turns out to be like Jermaine O'Neal, who was also considered a bust, sitting at the end of Portland's bench all those years? Great for us!
Since we're probably not making the playoffs this year, we'll have a high draft pick. Add in some key free agents down the road and continuing development of Dwight and Darko, what's not to love? All that's needed is some patience to see how it all unfolds. Current Mood: enthralled

Well, noone has wrote here in a while. I thought I would, after tonight's big win over the T-Wolves.
You'd think it would have been more difficult, but the Magic took care of Garnett & Co rather handily. Am I the only one who thinks they are overachieving this year? I mean, aside from KG and Wally World, it's slim pickings on that roster. The Magic just had too much backcourt talent and depth for them to handle.
It's nice to see the team play with a bit of confidence. The Magic are on a roll at home. Is it the throwback jerseys? Whatever it is, keep it up.
I don't give a fuck
what anybody says, Jameer Nelson is one of the best back-ups in the league, word up.
Happy New Year, everyone! Current Mood: hyper

Keyon Dooling? meh

Aby ideas on an upcoming draft?
In my opinion we are in strong need of a SG with nice outside shot and decent ballhandling skills.
Also would be grate to deal out Kato, ecpecially once Delambert is becoming a free agent, I guess we have a shot to land him instead.

Okay, now that I've thought about it....
The Doug Christie for Cuttino Mobley trade initially pissed me off. I thought Francise-Mobley was one of the best 1-2 backcourt punches in the league. But now that I've thought of it, it really does help the Magic.
I remember before the Kings had Christie, they were always at the door of being an elite team, but were never able to break on through. After they got him is when they went from "maybe someday" to perennial title contenders. He instantly brought defensive intensity they needed.
And Christie's been there. He has a ton of playoff experience, so that'll help.
Plus he knows how to play in an uptempo offense, so he'll adjust quickly. He's a better playmaker than Mobley, so he'll keep the ball moving and help Stevie with ball handling duties.
There's only two things I'm bummed about: one is, he is NOT
as good a shooter as Mobley (where in the blazes did you get that idea, cbauman
? Did you not see his brick at the end of game 7 of the Western conference finals against the Lakers back in 2002?). Number two, the guy is 34. How many good years does he have left? We're eventually going to have to get someone else to replace him, anyways.
Other than missing some offense (which we have plenty enough of, anyways), a pretty good trade that will help turn the Magic's defense around, hopefully.

hooray for Doug Christie!
Now, after were done getting our asses handed to us by Boston. We'll have good perimeter defense. Im sorry, I just never thought Mobley could step up and be a true contributor if alongside Francis. Christie can shoot just as well and is a much much better defender.
Good trade for both teams. Sacramento will use Mobley rightfully.
Sacramento gets: Cuttino Mobley and Michael Bradley
Orlando gets: Doug Christie
WHAT THE FUCK WHAT FUCKING JOHN WEISBROD WORSE TRADE EVER
Should've traded Deshawn Stevenson, a talented but little-used player. I'd see that happening, I'd see Sacramento taking that. We just gave Sacramento more than their fair share.
Plus Doug Christie is older and has a higher salary.
It just doesnt make any sense to me :[

Give Jameer Nelson more minutes!
I was able to catch the Knicks-Magic game on Monday, thus giving me one of the few chances to actually see the Magic on TV this year (I don't live in Florida). Here are a few observations I made:
- The team is definitely better than last years, which is obvious based on our record. However, we still have a ways to go defensively. We were getting killed
on the Knicks' pick-and-roll, which allowed them to score 71 points (!)in the first half. It's odd, because I saw that last year, too. But this is a whole new team. What gives? Johnny Davis, I'm lookin' at you, dude.....
- Dwight Howard still has a lot of work to do. He is averaging a double-double, which is very impressive for a rookie right out of high school. But he has a nasty tendency to go for the block on every play. Opposing power forwards only have to pump-fake and drive around him. Come on now, Dwight. If you wanna be somewhere between Duncan and Garnett (his own comparison, not mine), you have to stop playing like Steven Hunter first.
- Give Jameer Nelson more minutes! Stephon Marbury was killing
us in the first half. I think he had a chip on his shoulder playing against Stevie. His play allowed NY to go up by 17 at the half. It wasn't until Nelson came in the game that Orlando got back into it. He was making big plays (nice buzzer-beating floater at the end of the 3rd!), forcing turnovers, etc. Stevie kicks ass, but he isn't the most intense defensive player. I think if Davis had inserted Nelson in the first half, he could have slowed Marbury's barrage and put us in a better position going into the final two quarters. That's what Davis needs to do. If Stevie is getting lit up, bring in Nelson. I can see him being a stopper/spark plug off the bench, like Darrell Armstrong used to.
